The Department of Justice has broad statutory authority over civil legal matters and proceedings involving the state.  The Attorney General is charged with administering and enforcing a wide variety of laws that benefit New Mexico residents.  These include laws that protect consumer rights and against fraud, laws that protect consumers from price-fixing, bid-rigging and attempts to reduce competition, laws that protect residential, small business, and agricultural utility ratepayers, laws that protect and improve the quality of New Mexico’s and, air, water, and wildlife, and laws that protect residents civil rights, including fair housing and worker rights.

Why does the job exist?

To provide high-level administrative support for the Affirmative Litigation Section of NMDOJ.

How does it get done?

Provide information management, arranging conference calls and other meetings and events; reviewing memos, submissions, and reports to determine significant and plan for distribution, prepare agendas, research and prepare statistical reports, direct supportive services to include personnel and fiscal; develop and coordinate execution of Section procedures, develop reporting procedures and other methods of accountability.

Who are the customers?

This position would support the Deputy Attorney General of Affirmative Litigation, and the three Division Directors in the Section.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years work experience in office administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment as some statewide travel maybe required. Employment is subject to criminal background check and is conditional pending results of criminal background check. Be of good moral character and not have been convicted of a felony offense by a court of this state, any other state or the United States.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting, including during public meetings and hearings. Must be able to lift 25 lbs, and some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required in and out of state.
