ALBUQUERQUE— Today, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas issued the following statement after a judge decided to acquit Victor Gonzales of the crime of sexual assault.
“I am deeply concerned that the prior sexual history of an alleged victim of a violent sexual assault was used to discredit her testimony, and it is disappointing that the Judge would acquit Victor Gonzales of multiple counts related to a crime of sexual assault that matched his DNA to a sexual assault kit—one of thousands of sexual assault kits tested as part of the rape kit back log to get justice for victims of sexual assault,” said Attorney General Balderas.
