Balderas requests all former ITT Tech students to meet with his office
Albuquerque, NM – Attorney General Hector Balderas announced this week that his office will be holding transition meetings for students affected by ITT Technical Institute’s recent closure. Last week, ITT announced that it closed its ITT Technical Institute campuses nationwide, including the Albuquerque location. Attorney General Balderas wants to help New Mexicans
learn about their options after the closure. The purpose of these sessions is to educate former ITT students about the circumstances surrounding the closure, possible avenues for discharging their federal student loan debt, as well as to provide information about other educational programs that might accept transfer credits from ITT and what actions the Office of the Attorney General may
be considering. The Office of the Attorney General will be staffing these transition meetings with attorneys from its Consumer and Environmental Protection Division, who will be offering a presentation and will be available to field questions from students.
“Former ITT Tech students in New Mexico need to be made whole and they need to know their options,” said Attorney General Balderas. “I am asking all former ITT Tech students who were working on a degree at the time of the closure to meet with our office so we can assist them in understanding all of their options. Hard working New Mexicans deserve better than to be left out in the cold by a giant, for-profit college that drove them into unnecessary debt.”
The first transition meeting will take place on Monday, September 19th at 5:30 p.m. at the New Mexico State Bar Center located at 5121 Masthead, Albuquerque, NM 87109 in the Keleher Training room. The Office of the Attorney General encourages all former ITT students to attend, even if they were not in the middle of their studies on the day that ITT closed (September 6, 2016). If you attended ITT and would like to learn more about the options available to you, in addition to attending this or other transition meetings, please check the Attorney General’s website at www.nmag.gov/itt-closure.aspx where the Attorney General will be posting updated information.
If you are unable to attend this session but interested in attending a future session, please contact (505) 222-9000 and continue to check the Attorney General’s website for information about future sessions.
