Santa Fe, NM – House Bill 50 has been prefiled in the State Legislature by Senator Pete Campos and Representatives Ambrose Castellano and Joseph Sanchez, requesting $2.5 million dollars to fund integrated substance use disorder programs for northeastern New Mexico. These programs would offer support to those in the area who find themselves self-medicating or suffering from substance abuse disorder. Attorney General Raúl Torrez stands in full support of this bill as our office is committed to providing comprehensive treatment for mental health, behavioral health, and substance use disorders in our rural communities.
“The people in San Miguel County and throughout northeastern New Mexico are hurting from the devastating impact of the opioid crisis, which was only worsened by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fires,” said AG Torrez. “House Bill 50 would build on the incredible work by advocates and providers in the County that are tirelessly working to build support and treatment for those suffering from substance use disorders. We have a once-in-a-generation budget surplus and the opioid lawsuit settlements and should commit to transformative change to support our rural communities. I applaud Senator Campos and Representatives Castellano and Sanchez for bringing this bill forward.”
