Carlsbad, NM – This afternoon, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that the New Mexico Supreme Court agreed with the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division by affirming Robert Earley’s convictions for first-degree murder, kidnapping and tampering with evidence. On March 1, 2014, Earley brutally murdered his girlfriend, Emily Lambert, after a dispute at a Carlsbad hotel. The Supreme Court rejected Earley’s claims of error during his trial, held the convictions were supported by the evidence, and held that Earley’s statements to police were properly admitted at trial.

“This brutal abuse and extreme violence against a woman is unspeakable,” said Attorney General Balderas. “I am thankful for the hard work of the District Attorney on this case and that the Supreme Court agreed with our office in upholding Earley’s convictions. My thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Lambert’s family and the Eddy County community.”
