Taos, NM – This afternoon Jesus Torres was sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison for second-degree murder of his wife Elisa Garcia-Torres.
On January 15, 2021, Jesus Torres was camping in Red River, New Mexico with his wife, Elisa Garcia-Torres, and other family members. After a brief argument, Jesus pulled out a .40 caliber handgun and shot his wife Elisa eight times, killing her. Mr. Torres pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on August 23rd, 2022.
“The murder of Elisa Garcia-Torres was gruesome and excessive,” said New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez. “The defendant continued to shoot Elisa and only stopped when he ran out of ammunition. I am grateful the Judge sentenced Mr. Torres to the maximum amount of time in prison as Elisa has two teenage daughters who will forever be affected by his brutality and senselessness.”
