Albuquerque, NM – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas put a dangerous convicted sex offender back behind bars. James Richard Coca was on supervised probation for possession of child pornography, and was arrested in May for a DWI offense, violating the conditions of his probation. The Court today unsatisfactorily discharged Defendant from probation, sentencing him to 270 days in the Department of Corrections, followed by a one-year period of parole.

“With today’s sentencing, we have taken yet another dangerous criminal off of the streets of New Mexico,” said Attorney General Hector Balderas. “Our focus is on protecting vulnerable populations across the state, especially children from horrific sexual violence and exploitation.”

Today, Coca also admitted to failure to report to law enforcement. In addition to the time he’ll serve in the Department of Corrections, Coca must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, and will have to wear an ankle monitor during the additional year of sex-offender parole following his release.
