Human Trafficking
The New Mexico State Statute defines Human Trafficking as a person knowingly:
- recruiting, soliciting, enticing, transporting or obtaining by any means another person with the intent or knowledge that force, fraud or coercion will be used to subject the person to labor, services or commercial sexual activity;
- recruiting, soliciting, enticing, transporting or obtaining by any means a person under the age of eighteen years with the intent or knowledge that the person will be caused to engage in commercial sexual activity; or
- benefiting, financially or by receiving anything of value, from the labor, services or commercial sexual activity of another person with the knowledge that force, fraud or coercion was used to obtain the labor, services or commercial sexual activity.
Report Human Trafficking
If you believe you may have information about a human trafficking situation, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline toll-free hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Anti-Trafficking Hotline Advocates are available 24/7 to take reports of potential human trafficking or text the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 233733.
If you are in imminent danger, please call 911. Local authorities are trained on identifying human trafficking and referring to service providers.
If the victim is a child (under the age of 18), please call Statewide Central Intake (SCI) with CYFD. Call SCI and make a report of a situation involving a child: 1-855-333-SAFE [7233] or #SAFE from a cell phone.
To report missing children or child pornography, call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) at 1-800-THE-LOST (843-5678) or through their Cybertipline.
Services for Victims of Human Trafficking
The New Mexico Department of Justice, in conjunction with the New Mexico Dream Center are working to improve responses and services for child and youth victims of trafficking through increasing information about services, and coordination throughout the state with a goal to create effective change across systems.
The REACH application is a resource mapping application for service providers that aims to help victims of human trafficking here in New Mexico by identifying services, programs, and resources by location to better connect those in need.
