Fellowship Opportunities

We provide year-round opportunities for law, graduate, and undergraduate students interested in working for New Mexico’s most dynamic public law office. NMDOJ Fellows and externs can explore work in a variety of legal fields, ranging from appellate law to consumer and environmental protection to criminal prosecution to public policy. The number of full-time paid fellowships is limited and depends on available funding and office needs.

Our summer fellowship program offers a meaningful, substantive experience particularly for motivated law students. In addition to unique hands-on work experience we provide summer law clerk fellows with opportunities to engage in group discussions related to work in the office, meet with invited speakers who share practical experience, and join in social opportunities and other activities to supplement their summer work experience.

In addition to full-time paid fellowships, we also offer a limited number of unpaid volunteer or externship positions for school credit. During the fall and spring academic semesters, our offerings for students are primarily these volunteer and externship opportunities. Those interested externships for school credit should discuss logistics with their academic and career service advisers.

While we strive to house most fellowship and externship positions in Albuquerque or Santa Fe, it is possible that occasional travel to either office depending on duties assigned.
