Albuquerque, NM – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that Enock Arvizo was convicted of raping an inmate in his custody at District Court in Albuquerque in 2015 when he was a Metropolitan Detention Center guard. This morning, an Albuquerque jury found Arvizo guilty on one count of criminal sexual penetration of an inmate.

“My office will hold the powerful accountable when they prey on New Mexico’s most vulnerable, and we will continue to combat sexual violence against women,” said Attorney General Balderas. “I would like to thank the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office for their efforts and investigation into this matter.”

The case was prosecuted by Clara Moran, Laura Horton and Tony Long from the Office of the Attorney General. Judge Briana Zamora presided over the trial in Second Judicial District Court.
