Albuquerque, NM—Attorney General Hector Balderas and the New Mexico Office of the
Attorney General are hosting a blood drive in coordination with the National Association of
Attorneys General (NAAG) to promote NAAG’s 2019 presidential initiative on emergency and
crisis management. State attorneys general are partnering with local blood donation centers to
host blood drives from late summer through early fall. The New Mexico Attorney General’s
office blood drive will be held on July 24th from 8:30AM to 2:00PM. The location will be located
inside the Hyatt Regency downtown Albuquerque inside the Atrium area next to registration
Desk.
“We must all come together to support New Mexican families and children, from accident
victims to cancer patients and premature babies, to anemic seniors,” said Attorney General
Balderas. “As a poor state with many rural communities, blood shortages risk the lives of
thousands of New Mexicans everyday, and our hope is that this summer’s drive will help save
lives at home and across the country.”
The blood drives were coordinated with the goal of increasing community participation in
emergency preparedness while also raising awareness for constant blood needs for routine and
high casualty emergencies. According to the Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood every
two seconds. One pint of blood can be used to save up to three lives.
